Vendor gunned down at Bawku

Unidentified gunmen last Tuesday night shot and killed a mobile phone recharge card vendor at Bawku  in the Upper East Region.

Seidu Abane, 45, was on his bicycle returning home from work when his assailants, who had laid ambush in an uncompleted building close to his house at Kpalugu, a suburb of Bawku, shot at him.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Tefutor Kaletsi, who confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic, said the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m.

He said the assailants bolted with the deceased’s bag containing an unspecified amount of money and some recharge cards.

The commander said Abane operated near the Bawku Police Station.

Even though investigations have commenced into the matter, no arrests have yet been made. 

C/S Kaletsi, however, indicated that the incident was purely criminal and had nothing to do with the intermittent Bawku conflict.                               

Autopsy

The commander stated that an autopsy had since been carried out on the deceased at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital and the body released to the bereaved family for burial.
