It was in fulfilment of a pledge he made when the managers of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) held a fundraising programme in August this year to raise funds for the construction of a modern disability sports facility and educational academy.

Speaking at his residence at Cantonments in Accra yesterday, Mr Amissah-Arthur said Ghana was trying to build a just society and doing so required the extension of support to the less-privileged.

He said he was motivated by the activities of the foundation hence his decision to support it with the bus when the request was made.

“My family and I, together with some friends, put our heads together to contribute to a good cause and here we are,” Mr Amissah-Arthur said as he handed the keys of the bus to the Patron of the foundation, Mr Alban Bagbin.

He called on individuals and organisations that had made pledges to endeavour to honour them.

Patron

Mr Bagbin who is also the Majority Leader expressed appreciation to the Vice-President and appealed to other public-spirited individuals and organisations to emulate his example.

He indicated that as a patron of the foundation, he had resolved to reach out to Ghanaians to raise funds for the intended project and said that the chief of Dominase in the Central Region had supported them by donating 40 acres to the foundation for the project.

Mr Bagbin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nadoli-Kaleo, said that the disability sports facility would be the first of its kind in Ghana and that would place the country in a good stead to host the paralympic games in future.

He also said the foundation had plans to use the facility to assist physically challenged persons who were currently begging for alms to desist from the practice and also create a national platform for persons with disability and orphans to come together through sports.

Founder

The Founder and President of the foundation, Mr Richard Offei, who is a member of the Ghana amputee national team, thanked the Vice-President for the support and appealed for help from other individuals and organisations.

He said some individuals and organisations had provided cement for the construction of the sports facility.

The foundation presented a citation to the Vice-President in appreciation of his support.
