The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested 10 suspected armed robbers in separate operations to clamp down on crime.

The suspects, aged 20 to 35, included Iddrisu Imoro, aka Jato, whom the Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, described as “a hardened criminal.”

One at large

DCOP Duku said they were, however, still in search of another suspect, known only as Yahaya.

Yahaya is said to be a top-gun gangster trainer and groomer of robbers in Wa, hence the police have appealed to the public to provide information about him.

The nine other suspects in the grip of the police were named as Inusah Abdul-Rahman (aka Angola), Al Jimah Yahaya, Sori Adams, Inusah Osman, Sambo Fuseini, Ingah Yussif, Fuseini Muntari, Fatawu Yakubu and Yakubu Emma.

At a news conference in Wa, the Regional Commander said the suspects had visited mayhem on a number of victims in different cases of robbery within Wa and its outskirts.

He said the suspects were tracked and eventually arrested over three months after a laborious search.

Some of them, he said, had appeared before court already and were on remand, while others were yet to be put before court.

Jato's case

DCOP Duku said Jato, for instance, was arrested at his hideout at a suburb of Wa  after he had been monitored and tracked by the police, and stressed the need for the public to provide information to aid the police to discharge its responsibilities.

“Such collaboration is always for the benefit of all of us,” he stressed.

He noted that over the past few weeks, robbery and other forms of violence had increased in the town and added that “As a regional commander, I have it as my duty to ensure that all people would go about their activities in peace rather than have the fear of being attacked by robbers.”
