One person has been arrested by the police for the use of an offensive weapon and causing harm at Walewale in the North East Region.
Named by the police as 25-year-old Rafai Tahiru, together with two others, who are said to be currently at large, they alleged that their victim had stolen a mobile phone belonging to Rafai Tahiru.
They then tied up the hands and legs of the victim with a rope, put him in a tricycle, whipped him with canes and inflicted multiple machete wounds on his forehead and body.
The victim according the police was rescued by onlookers and rushed to the Walewale Government Hospital for medical attention while a report was lodged with Walewale Police.
The suspects fled the scene after incident but on Sunday, October 5, 2025, and based on intelligence, Rafai Tahiru was arrested at his hideout in Tampulungu, a suburb of Walewale.
A search in the suspect's room, according to the police led to the discovery of a machete which was stained with blood and believed to be the machete the suspects used to inflict the wounds on the victim.
