We are adults. No need to shout - EC tells LMVCA

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, has said it would not entertain any acts of noisemaking from pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) in their bid to picket at the EC and make a case for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 General Elections.

According to her, the EC was ready to receive the petition from LMVCA but would not tolerate any acts which would distract the commission from doing its work.

Addressing journalists after an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra, the EC boss re-echoed the position by the Police Service that the institution was not only a security zone, but also served as a national data centre.

“If LMVCA is bringing a petition of course we will receive it; we are adults. It’s not a shouting game,” she noted.

The EC boss also stated that the pressure group had submitted an earlier petition and hoped that it was not the same document they will be seeking to deliver to them.

She also revealed that so far, 30 institutions including 15 political parties, have submitted proposals which are being evaluated on whether or not there would be need for a new voters’ register.

Mrs Osei further stated that the EC has received donor support to evaluate the proposals and that by the end of the month; they will organize a forum to discuss and reach some consensus on the proposals.
