The assurances of Col. Gbevlo-Lartey come on the back of criticisms and renewed fear of violence after the Supreme Court's ruling on the 2012 election petition after a recent caution by the US embassy to its citizens in Ghana.

Speaking on Joy FM, Tuesday, Col. Gbevlo-Lartey said although his outfit's intelligence does not point to possible violence, he finds nothing wrong with a directive by the United States Embassy to its citizens to take safety precautions, especially on August 29.

The Consulate has explained that it deemed it proper to alert its citizens in periods like the one in which Ghana finds itself now.

Sarah Stryker, Director of Public Affairs at the US Embassy, said they have only issued the circular as a precautionary measure to U.S citizens.

However, Col. Gbevlo-Lartey said "we know...which threats [the August 29 ruling] poses...we have assessed it, we know the level of risk...and we are doing quite a lot," stressing nothing will happen.

He also noted that the responsibility of the U.S Embassy to protect its citizens, indicating such statements are part of the embassy's duty towards its citizens in the country".
