ECOP Africa

A major milestone for West Africa was achieved in 2024 when Ghanaian NGO ECOP Africa won the prestigious Ocean Tribute Award at BOOT Düsseldorf. The award, a collaboration between the Prince Albert II Foundation and the German Ocean Foundation, honors exceptional marine conservation projects. ECOP Africa was recognized for its innovative solutions, including nature-based carbon removal, ecosystem rehabilitation, and sustainable aquaculture, which have significantly improved ocean health and addressed illegal fishing.

“This award is not just a win for ECOP Africa but for all of Africa,” said Peter Teye Busumprah, ECOP Ghana Coordinator. “It highlights the power of collaboration and the ability to bring indigenous knowledge into global climate action. The seed funding has enabled impactful projects like the Ghana Ocean Climate Innovations Hub, which now supports fisheries initiatives across Africa, involving countries like Tunisia, Nigeria, and Cameroon.”
