GN staff build classroom block for Abeyee pre-schoolers

The Global Chairman of Group Nduom, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, has inaugurated a newly constructed classroom block for the Abeyee community in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District to bolster early childhood education.

The facility was undertaken by staff of the GN Group to provide a more conducive teaching and learning environment for pre-schoolers in the Abeyee community.

The ceremony marked a new chapter for the local children, whose poor infrastructure was negatively impacting enrolment.

The two-classroom block, well-equipped with television sets, child-friendly furniture as well as restroom facilities for both pupils and teachers now offers the schoolchildren an improved learning environment.

It also has a teacher’s office and a spacious playground that ensures a safe and stimulating atmosphere for young learners.

Commitment

At the inauguration ceremony, Dr Nduom said the facility was a commitment to providing a holistic educational experience right from the early stages of schooling.

He stated the importance of laying a strong foundation in early childhood education, stating, "This is the first step in a child’s educational journey. The foundation built here will determine the quality of their future learning experience."

He acknowledged that while it took time to complete the project, the focus on building from scratch was necessary to ensure a long-lasting impact.

Dr Nduom praised the GN Group employees for their hard work and dedication, recognising their collective efforts in completing the project.

He noted that the involvement of the GN Group staff in such community projects reflected their commitment to social responsibility and development.

Ownership

Dr Nduom appealed to the residents to protect the new facility from theft and vandalism, stressing the importance of community ownership.

"This building belongs to you and your children. It’s your responsibility to look after it and ensure it remains in good condition," he urged, cautioning against any neglect that could harm the facility.

He also encouraged the community to participate actively in elections, underscoring the importance of choosing leaders who prioritise the well-being of the people.

"Politics should be about creating opportunities and supporting local businesses. When you vote, choose candidates who have a proven track record of uplifting communities and helping businesses to thrive," he advised, hinting at his broader vision for development-oriented leadership.

The event attracted a wide range of participants, including members of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), officials from the GN Group, traditional leaders from the Abeyee community, students, teachers and parents.

School’s excitement

The head teacher of the Abeyee M/A Basic School, Grace Acquah, could not hide her excitement and appreciation for the new facility.

She highlighted the challenges faced in the past due to the lack of preschool structures.

She said without a solid foundation from the creche, teachers found it difficult to effectively manage and teach the children.

“This new facility is a game-changer for us," she remarked, expressing the hope that it would draw more parents to enrol their children in school.

A staff of the school, Ruth Conduah, was visibly moved by the new development which made her struggle to find the right words to express her joy.

She recalled how the school had been on the verge of collapse, saying Dr Nduom and the GN Group's intervention had revived it and given it a new lease on life.

On behalf of the community leaders, the Okyeame (linguist) of the Abeyee community, Okyeame Kojo Duah, also expressed appreciation for Dr Nduom's continued support.
