Work on Teshie landing beach to start soon
The Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Mrs Benita Sena Okity-Duah, has said construction work on the Teshie Landing Beach will begin by the close of this year.
She said procurement processes were far advanced for the commencement of the project.
Mrs Okity-Duah made this known in an interview with Obonu News after donating assorted items to the Teshie Traditional Council for onward distribution among the five main clan houses within the traditional area.
They are Lɛŋshi, Klemusu, Krɔbɔ, Gbugbla and Agba We.
The items, which were jointly procured by the MP and the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly included 24 sacks of maize, 20 cartons of fish, 14 gallons of palm oil and an undisclosed amount of money.
Mrs Okity-Duah, who is also the Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, noted that the historical significance of Homowo, which literally means “hooting at hunger,” had not changed.
Therefore, the legacy should not be destroyed with acts that might cause disunity.
She challenged the traditional leaders to come together in championing the progress of Teshie and added that Teshie was lagging behind.
Speaking about the essence of the donation to the people of Teshie during the festive period, Mrs Okity-Duah said it was meant to unite the various clans ahead of the Homowo celebration while commending them for the peaceful coexistence they had exhibited.
However, she urged residents of the Teshie community to abide by the rules and regulations governing the various stages of the celebrations, and also cautioned members of the community to refrain from provoking each other, particularly, the use of "insulting" songs and compositions, as well as defamatory comments.
Elders of the traditional council, who received the items on behalf of the various clans, commended the assembly and the MP for the gesture.
