When the case was called on Thursday, Mr Garry Nimako Marfo, who represented the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), told a Fast Track High Court that the Association filed a conditional appearance on August 11.

The GMA lawyer told the court presided over by Mrs Justice Barbara Chaway that he needed some time to respond to the pleadings of the plaintiff, Mr Listowell Kusi Poku, the General Secretary of the United Front Party.

According to counsel for the GMA, he also intends to file additional papers in respect of the matter.

The court obliged him and adjourned the matter to August 26.

The GMA has been on strike for about two weeks now over stalled negotiations on their  conditions of service.

The doctors have refused to yield to pressure to resume work and go back to the negotiation table,  as they stick to their road map which can soon  see them resigning en masse.

Plaintiff in a writ filed at the court in August this year,  found the conduct of the GMA as “quite disturbing in view of the crucial role medical doctors play in any nation’s life, and wondered if a strike action should not be the last resort, especially since it has not heard of any negotiations between the Government or its representatives which has broken down,  preceding the announcement that the defendant is embarking on a strike action.”
