CDS urges public to go for vaccine
The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Seth Amoama, has urged the public to go for the COVID-19 vaccination when their time is due because it is safe and efficacious.
He said ever since the President took the first jab of the vaccine last Monday, many others including members of the executive, judiciary, legislature and security services had followed suit and could testify that it was safe.
The CDS was speaking at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, on his first official engagement since he assumed the high office yesterday, when he received quantities of personal protective equipment (PPE), hygiene items and food from a businessman and philanthropist, Mr Ernest Sitso Domie.
The businessman, in addition, presented GH¢7,000 to a child on admission at the hospital with burns and who was in dire need of financial support.
Exemplary leadership
Admiral Amoama said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo showed exemplary leadership when he took the first vaccine as encouragement to the public to avail themselves when their time was due.
"I would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to go for the vaccine because it is safe and efficacious," he said.
He said the President had selected the hospital as a COVID-19 vaccination centre taking into consideration the hospital’s high standards.
The CDS commended Mr Domie, and said, "it takes resources to run this facility and maintain standards and since the government cannot do it alone, there is the need for interventions from philanthropists”.
Gesture
Mr Domie, who is currently Chairman of OBZ Group Ghana Limited and Chief Executive Officer of Odulair Ghana, a medical supply company, said he chose to reach out to the needy and the underprivileged on March 5 because it was his birthday.
