The equipment, worth GH¢150,000, include gynaecological examination chairs, X-ray machines, gynaecological instruments, washing machines, operation lamps, patient mattresses and beds, patient tables, wheel-chairs and medication refrigerators.

The rest are children-patient beds, baby trolley, newborn heating machines, infusion stands, baby scales, operating room tables and delivery room beds.

Beneficiary institutions

Health institutions to benefit from the donation include the Wellembele Health Centre and some Community Health Planning System (CHPS) compounds in the district.

Presenting the items, the Country Director of Virtue Foundation, Mr Issah Mohammed Bataglia, said the NGO was introduced into the district by the then Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Madam Halutie Rafatu Dubie, in 2011, and at that time, the foundation made a similar presentation of $80,000 to the Tumu District Hospital.

After five years, he said, the foundation decided to make this second donation in support of efforts to alleviate the plight of the people.

Mr Bataglia, who mentioned that plans were advanced to refurbish the Wellembele Health Centre, promised to bring in a team of health personnel to the area towards the end of the year to screen and treat the people of various ailments, adding, “We are establishing a long-term initiative with the district to improve health care toward community advancement”.

Commendation

Receiving the items, the Sissala-East District Director of Health Services, Mr Alex Bapula, commended the NGO for its service to humanity and said the donation had come at the right time, since they were in dire need of such equipment to provide quality health care to the people.

He promised that the items would be put to good use and advised the people to report quickly to the nearest health facility to receive the needed health care.
