Others are a carton of gloves, eight pieces of surgery drain bags, 25 boxes of cardinal health hydrocolloid dressing and 30 packs of diapers, among others.

First Lady’s commitment

Mrs Akosua Newman, the Director of Operation at the First Lady’s office, who presented the items on behalf of Mrs Akufo-Addo, said the presentation formed part of the foundation’s agenda to boost the well-being of women and children in the country.

She said the First Lady was committed to ensuring that no woman or her baby died during or after delivery in the country.

She said so far, through the Rebecca Foundation, the First Lady had been able to support hospitals in various regions with the exception of the three northern regions and the Brong Ahafo Region, which, she said, would be done soon.

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Maxwell Quophy Blagodzi, who received the items on behalf of the people of the region, thanked the Rebecca Foundation for the kind gesture, saying it would go a long way to improve the health status of people in the region.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Krachi West, Mr Douglas Osei-Nti, who received the items from the deputy regional minister, said the medical equipment had come at an opportune time and would help in service delevery at the district hospital.

The Medical Superintendent at the Krachi West District Hospital, Dr Hilarius Abiwu, who also received the items from the DCE, thanked the Rebecca Foundation for the kind gesture.

He said the hospital had for some time now been able to eliminate the issue of maternal deaths but was still grapling with neonatal deaths, a situation which, he said, the equipment would help to resolve.

He said newborn deaths were currently crucial to the hospital and, therefore, it had created a neonatal and intensive care unit (NICU) recently and pledged that the items would be put to good use at the unit.

He said the hospital’s goal was to keep the neonatal deaths at zero every month just like it had done with maternal deaths.
