Service persons from all the 30 districts in the Ashanti Region participated in the two-day exercise which was held on the premises of  the National Service Scheme (NSS) in Kumasi.

Since its inception in 1973, the NSS has recognised the inculcation of the spirit of patriotism and selflessness in the youth for social cohesion and national development, and blood donation has been an identifiable mark.

The Executive Director of the NSS, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, stated that the event was in fulfilment of the slogan of the NSS, which is “Ready to Serve.”

He noted that the National Blood Bank had not been able to meet its national target, with available records indicating that in 2008 only 27 per cent of the national requirement of blood donation was done voluntarily.
