Abide by building regulations — Ga South MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga South Assembly, Mr Jerry Akwei Thompson, has cautioned developers to desist from building on lands demarcated for public use or face the full rigours of the law.

He has, therefore, urged all developers to adhere to laid-down building regulations so as to avoid being taken by events.

He issued the warning on Monday when he led a team from the municipal assembly to inspect ongoing developments within his catchment area. At Bortianor, where a developer had constructed a fence wall across the main road leading to Shopright supermarket at Dorkunoo, the MCE requested to see the permit of the developer within 48 hours or risk having the entire fence wall pulled down.

According to Mr Akwei Thompson, the assembly’s road unit will today start grading the road which has been destroyed by erosion to restore it to good state.

He said it was wrong for the developer to deny the public access to  the road, simply because the road had not been in use for sometime now due to its bad state.

In that regard, the MCE warned developers not to build on areas demarcated for public use such as roads, schools, hospitals or markets.

According to Act 462 (Local Government Act, 1993), “every person shall, before constructing a building or other structure or undertake any work, obtain permit from the district planning authority which shall contain such conditions as the district planning authority may consider necessary.”

The Ga South Assembly was set up in the year 2007 and inaugurated in 2008.

According to the MCE, most roads within the municipality have not been tarred and it is the commitment of the assembly to work hard to overcome that challenge.
