Delegates of the Ada East Constituency have rejected the party’s unopposed parliamentary aspirant for the constituency in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary.

The delegates refused to accept the Mr. Kanor Senakey  as the party’s unopposed parliamentary aspirant just when officials of the Electoral Commission were about to introduce him to be acclaimed, insisting that they wanted competition and not to acclaim a candidate.

Reports indicate that there is heavy police presence at the polling centre. The constituency has been a stronghold of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

The delegates insisted that they could not work with the aspirant because they did not know him.

However graphiconline checks indicate that Mr Senakey was the Dangme East District Presiding member from 2006 to 2009.

Per the party’s election guidelines, an aspirant is deemed elected if he or she stands unopposed and needs only an acclamation from the delegate.

The Constituency Secretary, Mr Gilbert Amanor, told an Accra-based radio station that the vetting committee had approved the candidature of Mr Senakey.

He said the Constituency chairman would decide the next step to take in handling the matter.
