Allotey Jacobs’ suspension won’t affect NDC in 2020 election — Dadson

The Central Regional Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Eric Dadson, says the suspension of the party’s former Central Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Allotey Jacobs, won’t affect the party’s fortunes in the December 7 general election.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, he said the suspension of Mr Jacobs had rather energised and galvanised the rank and file of the party to go all out and work hard for the party to win the 2020 election.

“The suspension has motivated all of us and made us battle ready to execute an effective and efficient electioneering to recapture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government,” he said

Discipline

Mr Dadson said the NDC was bigger than any individua,l therefore, the suspension was needed to further instil discipline in the party.

According to him, the NDC could not go into the 2020 election with an undisciplined army and for that matter there was the need for the party to activate its disciplinary structures whenever a member failed to act in accordance with the regulations of the party.

“The suspension of our former chairman is in the right direction as it will instil a high sense of discipline in the party,” he said.

He said the suspension of Mr Jacobs would send a strong signal to party members, particularly the bigwigs that the NDC was governed by laws and that whoever breached the party’s rules and regulations would be dealt with per the constitution of the party.

Suspension

Last Wednesday (May 6), the NDC suspended Mr Jacobs as a member of the party.

A letter addressed to Mr Jacobs and signed by the National Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said Mr Jacobs was suspended for “persistent anti-party conduct”.

“The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the party, at its meeting held on Wednesday May 6, 2020, has suspended you forthwith as a member of the party, pursuant to articles 46(1), 46(6) and 46(8) of the party’s constitution for your persistent anti-party conduct,” the letter indicated.

It stated further that the matter had been referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the NDC for further action.

Working against party

Mr Dadson accused Mr Jacobs of working against the interest of the party.

“There is no doubt that comments and actions of Mr Jacobs since the party came into opposition are conflicting with the position of the NDC and that the disciplinary action against him would help ensure discipline in the party.”

“It is really unacceptable that persons who benefitted so much from the party while in government have now turned around and working against the ultimate interest of the party,” he said.
