Apraku accepts outcome of polls; Congratulates Akufo-Addo
Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, who could not get enough votes to be part of the final list of presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that he accepts the outcome of the Special Electoral College election.
‘’I have accepted the results of the Special Electoral College elections held on August 31, 2014 and I wish to thank all those who supported me during the campaign period and on the day of the elections,’’ he said.
In a statement, the former minister of trade disclosed that he had already called and “congratulated my colleague and friend, Nana Akufo-Addo, on his overwhelming victory.”
Dr Apraku wished Nana Akufo-Addo good luck in this second leg of the presidential race, saying, “may God guide him as he embarks on the next phase of the campaign.”
The Special Electoral College of the NPP on August 31, 2014 pulled the brakes on Dr Apraku’s presidential ambitions, as well as those of Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
Dr Apraku and Mr Asamoah Boateng got 10 and 13 votes, representing 1.9 and 1.3 per cent respectively of the total votes.
The same college overwhelmingly endorsed the candidature of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, with 598 votes, representing over 80 per cent.
His closest rival, Mr John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, trailed second with 59 votes, representing 7.9 per cent of the votes.
Both Messrs Francis Addai Nimoh and Joe Ghartey grabbed 22 votes each, representing 2.9 per cent. Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw came fifth with a total of 14 votes.
The party will go to an expanded delegates congress on October 18, this year to select the party’s flag bearer for the 2016 general election.
