The assembly members of the eight electoral areas of the sub-metro said the honour was in recognition of the development brought to the Bantama Constituency by the current MP.

A citation of honour presented to the MP said Mr Asenso-Boakye, who has been on the seat for just three years, has performed better than any MP the constituency had had under the Fourth Republic.

Project

The assembly members cited the construction and asphalting of major roads; the construction of four astro turf football fields in the area, the award of scholarship to needy students in the constituency, provision of industrial machines for shoe makers, hairdressers, tailors/seamstresses, presentation of ambulance to health facilities, and a vehicle to the Bantama National Health Insurance office as some of the works of the MP worth celebrating.

They also cited the building of police stations, dual desks for schools, water tanks to schools, building of community libraries, organisation of mock exams for prospective Basic School Certificate Examination candidates, support for the youth with business startup capitals, and assisting the youth to gain admission into higher institutions of learning as some other contributions of the MP to the development of the area.

The assembly members again expressed appreciation to their MP for lobbying for the construction of the Atafoa bridge where commuters over years had endured flooding, leading to the death of some persons who attempted to cross during heavy overflows.

Assembly Members

Speaking on behalf of the assembly members, the Chairman of the Bantama sub-metro, Francis Amoako, indicated that ''from the time of Richard Anane till now, we have not seen any MP who has brought us, the people of Bantama, this kind of development Mr Asenso-Boakye has brought to us within this short period of his being our MP.

We all have to support him to do more for us.

“But, as Oliver Twist would do, we are asking that he keeps his lobbying skills well ignited to help solve the other challenges we have in the constituency, and we are very sure he will do them''.

The eight assembly members presented a citation that expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Mr Asenso-Boakye for the progress he had brought to the Bantama Constituency.

Response

Responding to the gesture, the Bantama MP and Minister for Works and Housing said the move by the assembly members had motivated him to do more for his people.

He thanked them for acknowledging his “modest contributions” to the development of Bantama.

Mr Asenso-Boakye charged Ghanaians to recognise that the growth and development of the country was a shared responsibility, stressing that every Ghanaian must do their part to support the government to achieve the progress they all sought after.

''The development we see in places such as Europe has been achieved through the payment of taxes.

I pray we Ghanaians support government with honest payment of our taxes,” he said.
