Bawumia: Years of attacks have only strengthened my resolve
Former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has insisted that he remains vindicated despite years of political attacks, declaring that his resilience has only strengthened his resolve to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the future.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra after submitting his nomination forms, Dr Bawumia said his political journey had been marked by sustained criticism from both the opposition and some members within his own party.
However, he maintained that none of the attacks had shaken his determination.
“Fellow Kukrudites, in the words of Kofi Abrefa Busia, the qualification to be a success in Ghana’s politics includes ‘a large capacity to stomach all sorts of attacks’,” he stated.
He noted that adversity was an inevitable part of politics but emphasised that it had prepared him to withstand pressure.
“I am not oblivious to the fact that the NDC and lately elements within our own family subject me to daily attacks. In fact, I expect that there will be more attacks in the coming months and years. But if I have learnt anything from our history, it includes the fact that a man must be formidable so that no matter the adversity, he stands tall, focused and resolute,” Dr Bawumia said.
According to him, most of the criticisms levelled against him had already been exhausted and time had vindicated his positions. “All that can be hurled at me, I have already been attacked with. As the days are going by, time has shown great vindication,” he added.
Dr Bawumia cited endorsements from unlikely quarters as proof of his arguments, saying: “The Bank of Ghana, the IMF, and even NDC kingpins are now admitting on many matters that Bawumia was right. What more can they say of me now?”
He concluded by asserting that his ability to remain standing after years of intense scrutiny was evidence that his political journey was heading towards victory. “In our history when all has been said of a candidate and yet he remains standing, victory is the logical next step that awaits him,” he declared.
