CDD-Ghana organises conference for African parliamentary organizations

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) in collaboration with the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs is organizing an international conference for Parliamentary Monitoring Organizations (PMOs) in Africa from February 23 to 24 in Accra.

The two-day conference is expected to bring together representatives of civil society organizations from Anglophone and Francophone African countries that have been engaging with parliaments on the continent to enhance transparency and performance.

A statement issued by CDD-Ghana and copied to the Ghana News Agency over the weekend said the meeting will deliberate on a draft baseline study conducted by the Centre (CDD-Ghana) with affiliate researchers to map out the status of African PMOs.

It also seeks to create a network of African PMOs, enabling them to exchange lessons and share best practices.

The statement said the primary aim of the initiative is to strengthen parliamentary openness and accountability by enhancing the capacity of African PMOs to monitor the functioning and the effectiveness of African Parliaments as well as promote citizen-parliament engagement on the continent.

 According to the statement the Accra conference forms part of CDD-Ghana’s project “Enhancing Transparency and Openness in African Parliaments: The African Parliamentary Monitoring Organization”.
