The Majority Caucus in Parliament has urged the Speaker of Parliament to declare the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, a "persona non grata."
The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who made the appeal, said based on the order by the Tamale High Court, Mr Nyindam must not be allowed to partake in all parliamentary proceedings.
He said, based on a precedent in the case of the National Democratic Congress MP for Assin North in the previous Parliament, Mr Nyindam must be ordered out of the Chamber in respect of the High Court order, he said.
He told the House a bailiff from the court had duly served the Speaker of Parliament, the Legal Department, and Parliament itself, of the High Court ruling.
But the Minority Leader, in a counter argument, urged the Speaker to reject the request by the Minority Chief Whip.
Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin said Mr Dafeamkpor could not invite the Speaker to make a constitutional pronouncement to deny Mr Nyindam presence in the House and participation in parliamentary proceedings.
He challenged the argument that Mr Nyindam should be removed from the House in a similar manner the Assin North MP, James Gyekye Quayson, was ordered out of the Chamber since such action never occurred in the House.
