EC urges officials to maintain electoral integrity, warns against malpractices
The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Benjamin Bano-Bio, has called on all Commission Officials to uphold professionalism in their duties, warning that any official found compromising the integrity of the election process will face strict legal consequences.
Mr Bano-Bio made these remarks in response to the recent arrest of an EC official in the Kintampo South Constituency, Bono East Region, who is accused of distributing defective ballot papers.

The suspect, Joseph Dery, allegedly issued 15 ballots at the Ampesika-Bayere Polling Station that excluded the first presidential candidate's name.
He is currently under investigation by the police, and the EC has also launched an internal inquiry into the matter.
"We will not tolerate any actions that undermine the electoral process. Those responsible for any malpractice will be dealt with according to the law," Mr Bano-Bio stated.
During the EC’s second press briefing, Bano-Bio provided updates on the voting process, which he said is proceeding smoothly nationwide. He noted that voting had started on time at most polling stations, with high voter participation.
By midday, 30 per cent of polling stations had seen over 60 per cent voter turnout while 40 per cent recorded a turnout of 40 per cent to 50 per cent.
Another 30 per cent had between 30 per cent and 39 per cent.

Mr Bano-Bio also assured that all biometric verification devices (BVDs) were functioning well, following minor initial glitches that had been quickly resolved.
He emphasised that the EC is committed to ensuring a free, fair and transparent election process.
In his address, he highlighted the Commission's efforts to assist voters with disabilities, including providing specialised jackets for the blind and ensuring polling stations are accessible. Additionally, the EC has set up a toll-free helpline, 0800 324 324, for voters to report any issues.
Over 24 staff members are available to assist callers.
