Electoral Commission reports two women circulating ‘fake’ video on voter transfer to police
The Electoral Commission has drawn the police’s attention to two women circulating a video in which they claim the commission was undertaking a secret voter transfer and also secretly registering voters.

According to the commission the allegation by the two women in the video in circulation on social media was “false” as voter registration and transfers ended in May and July 5 respectively.
A press statement dated July 15, 2024 signed and issued by EC Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey called on the police to arrest and prosecute those behind the “fabrications as a matter of urgency.”
“We urge all stakeholders, especially the Political Parties to avoid propagating falsehood which has the potential of undermining state institutions and destroying the peace and stability of our nation.

IGNORE FALSE CLAIMS MADE AGAINST THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION IN TWO VIDEOS CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The Commission has taken note of two videos circulating on social media, depicting two women purporting to be members of a Political Party.
Both women falsely accuse the Commission of registering voters and undertaking a Transfer of Votes Exercise.
The Commission states categorically that both allegations are FALSE.

It is obvious that this calculated mischief is aimed at tarnishing the image of the Commission and causing disaffection for the Commission in the lead up to the General Election in December, 2024.
For the information of the Public, the Commission concluded the 2024 Limited Voter Registration Exercise on the 29th of May 2024.
The Application for the Transfer of Votes ended on the 14th of June, 2024 but was reopened for students in Public Universities, Prisoners, as well as personnel of the Security Agencies from Wednesday 3rd July, to Friday 5th July, 2024.
Indeed, all the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits used for the Transfer for students were deactivated after the Exercise. Therefore, they could not have been used to register voters or undertake transfers as alleged by the two in the video.
Surprisingly, the persons making the allegations in the videos provided no evidence. The videos do not show images of registration kits or materials used for the purported Exercise. Neither was any EC Official seen in the video.
The Commission finds these allegations dangerous to our democratic process and we entreat the General Public to disregard them.
We call on the Ghana Police Service to arrest and prosecute those behind these fabrications as a matter of urgency.
We urge all stakeholders, especially the Political Parties to avoid propagating falsehood which has the potential of undermining state institutions and destroying the peace and stability of our nation.
