Envoys urge Ghana, Francophone states to foster enhanced ties

Two Francophone envoys have underscored the need for Ghana and Francophone speaking countries to intensify efforts at fostering socio-economic and political co-operation for sustainable development.

According to the envoys, it is only realistic for Ghana to do so, in view of the fact that it is surrounded by French-speaking neighbours—Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Burkina Faso. 

The envoys, French Ambassador Frederic Clavier, and the Canadian High Commissioner, Mr Christopher Thornley, were speaking to the Daily Graphic on Tuesday. They spoke on the Francophonie Festival, which commences today.  The week-long activity is organised each year to promote the francophone cultures in Ghana. Ghana also holds the status of International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) associated member, since 2006.
