The programme entails the history and identity of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the political history of Ghana, political leadership, the principles, practice and philosophy of social democracy and political organisation and activism.

Eligibility

Basically, anybody who is 18 and above and is a member of the NDC who believes and shares in the ideology of the party qualifies to enrol at the institute.

The acting Registrar of the GISD, Mr Peter Boamah-Otokunor, made this known on the sidelines of the enrolment ceremony at the party’s Adabraka headquarters in Accra on Friday.

Mr Boamah-Otokunor, who is also a member of the administration subcommittee, said almost 700 persons picked up forms and over 400 registered.

He said the institute would for now be run at the conference room of the party’s headquarters and eventually moved to a permanent campus to be located by the estate subcommittee chaired by a former Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah.

Rector

Earlier in a brief address, the Rector of the GISD, Dr William Ahadzie, said the administration had been overwhelmed by the interest expressed by members of the party at all levels to acquire skills that would enable them to contribute to making the NDC a strong, viable and a more formidable force in the country’s politics.

Dr Ahadzie said the institute would offer different programmes for different groups of participants as it grows into a world-class one and assured those who missed the opportunity to participate in the first programme that they would have the opportunity later.

He said the institute would not only deliver campus-based programmes but would move to the regions and also engage other groups to ensure that it responded to everyone’s needs.

The rector said as a young institution, its needs were many and asked all who were capable and willing to assist to come on board so that it could roll out its programmes to the people.
