Chief Imam congratulates Bawumia on NPP victory
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has congratulated Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, describing it as a demonstration of Ghana's commitment to democracy and religious pluralism.
In a statement, the National Chief Imam commended the NPP for conducting a peaceful congress, which he said was a testament to the party's commitment to internal democracy and constitutional normalcy.
He also praised the other contestants for conceding defeat in a spirit of conciliation and unification.
"The decision of the delegates is a clear manifestation that Ghana is not a theocracy but a democracy beautified by religious pluralism," the National Chief Imam said.
He also hailed the Police and the Electoral Commission for their roles in ensuring a transparent and accountable primary election.
“Democracy is a shared responsibility and a civic duty. And when we all play our roles effectively in pursuit of democratic prosperity, in the end, we will not remember the discomfort of our individual struggles, but the comfort of our collective success,” he said.
