Greater Accra Youth Wing of NDC inaugurates working committees

The Greater Accra Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated 10 working committees charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the party wins the 2020 general election.

The committees inaugurated include the operations and programmes committee, the Political Committee, Student Affairs Committee, Research and Strategy Committee, Administration Committee and the monitoring and evaluation committee.

The committees are to, among other things, reach out to every home to convince more youth to join the party.

Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the party headquarters in Accra on March 5, 2020, brought together the regional executive members of the party, youth organisers in the various constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, representatives of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) of the NDC and some party executive members.

In attendance was the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo; the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia; the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr Joseph Ade Coker; the National Youth Organiser, Mr George Opare Addo; the National Organiser, Mr Joshua Akamba and a host of other dignitaries.

Act responsibly

Mr Ade Coker, who was the chairman for the occasion, called on the youth to act responsibly and be committed to the party’s quest winning the 2020 general election.

“The future is in the hands of the youth. The way the youth comport themselves and take destiny into their hands determines how Ghana will go. Our victory depends on the youth,” he stated.

“The time we spend on social media insulting ourselves is detrimental to ourselves, our officers, officials and our party. My advice to you is to spend less time on social media and rather expend your energies on making sure that the youth in our various branches and constituencies are fully engaged. Social media insults will not win an election. What will win us elections is the ability of the youth of the party to mobilise the youth in their various constituencies and branches. It is the youth who will propel the party to victory,” Mr Ade Coker said.

Discipline

Swearing in the new members, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo, charged them to abide by the ideals upon which the party was formed and revere the hierarchy of the party.

“Let everybody present here know that the NDC party was built upon principles. While you are working hard for the party, try as much as possible to be disciplined. The NDC would like to form a government that will bring discipline and decency into the body politic of this country and ensure that the nation’s resources are utilised to the benefit of all and not a few,” he stated.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo also urged the members to see themselves as an integral part of the party and bring their skills and ideas to bear to enable the party return to power after the Dec 7 elections.

“The most vibrant sector of our population is the youth. If you want to win any election, the youth should be the pivot around which the organisation of the party should revolve. See yourselves as a very critical ingredient in the organisational structure of the party. No matter how small you are and small role you are playing, do not see it as insignificant. Everybody should see themselves as part and parcel of the process of making the party work efficiently,” he said.
