NDC Volta Chairman commends President for prioritising region’s well-being
The Volta Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people of the Volta Region.
This comes after the government allocated GH¢242.5 million to support victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage during the presentation of the budget to Parliament by the Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson.
It also announced the allocation of GH¢200 million to support victims of the tidal wave disaster that recently displaced residents of Agavedzi and surrounding communities in the Ketu South Constituency.
Fulfilling promises
In an interview with the Daily Graphic last Wednesday, March 12, Mr Agbavitor lauded President Mahama’s swift and decisive action, describing the interventions as bold and compassionate.

He emphasised that the allocations were clear evidence of the President’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign and manifesto promises.
“The Volta NDC extends its deepest appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, a true statesman and promise-keeper, for once again demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the people of the Volta Region,” he said.
“His dedication to fulfilling his campaign and manifesto promises is evident in his decisive action to allocate substantial funding to support victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage and the devastating tidal waves that struck the Ketu South Constituency,” Mr Agbavitor added.
Lifeline
He explained that the GH¢242.5 million allocation will serve as a lifeline package for individuals and families affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage, which caused massive destruction to homes and livelihoods.
Additionally, the GH¢200 million relief fund for communities such as Agavedzi, Amutsinu, Salakope and Adina will provide much-needed support for people who have endured the brunt of recurring tidal waves.
Mr Agbavitor stated that the interventions reaffirmed President Mahama’s deep concern for the well-being of Ghanaians and his commitment to restoring dignity and hope to affected communities.
He further noted that the budget reflected a governance approach that prioritised human development, economic resilience and social justice.
“The Volta NDC has meticulously examined the budget and has no doubt that President Mahama’s policies are bold, visionary, sensitive and people-centred, aimed at resetting Ghana’s economy while alleviating the hardships of ordinary citizens,” he added.
The regional chairman assured residents of the Volta Region that under President Mahama’s leadership, their concerns would continue to be addressed, urging them to have confidence in the administration’s commitment to development and social welfare.
