
New MCEs pledge to drive devt in Eastern Region
Four newly appointed District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Eastern Region have vowed to mobilise all available human and material resources in their respective areas to provide viable development projects to raise the quality of life of the people.
They also promised to liaise with the relevant government agencies, local and foreign investors to set up industries to absorb the teeming unemployed youth in the area.
The MDCEs, Paulina Akabila for West Akyem Municipality, Linda Ahenkorah, Abdul Hakim Antwi and Eric Ahinakwah, for Akyemansa, Birim North and Asene-Manso-Akroso Districts respectively, gave the assurance when they were sworn into office at separate functions at Asamankese, Akyem Ofoase, New Abirem and Akyem Manso, respectively, last Tuesday.
They were grateful to President John Mahama, the national, regional and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other stakeholders for their endorsement and promised to live up to expectations.
Profile
Before her appointment, Ms Akabila was an English tutor at Asamankese Senior High School, while Mrs Ahenkorah was a former Women’s Organiser for the NDC in the Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency, with Mr Antwi being the Assistant Secretary of the NDC in the Abirem Constituency.
Mr Ahinakwah was the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Asene-Akroso-Manso Constituency in the 2024 general election.
With the exception of Mr Ahinakwah, who obtained 22 out of the 31 valid votes cast, representing 70.96 per cent, the remaining MDCEs secured 100 per cent endorsement from their assembly members.
Ceremony
The grand ceremony attracted people from all walks of life, including politicians from both sides of the political divide, prominent traditional rulers, the Clergy and Muslim leaders.
At the ceremony, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, stressed the need for the MDCEs to take realistic measures to reconcile the party in their respective areas to enable the party to retain political power in 2028.
She advised them to strive to maintain the sterling qualities that convinced the appointing authorities to nominate them from the large number of contestants to represent their people.
Mrs Awatey admonished them to lead exemplary lifestyles such as being humble, respectful, respectable, assiduous, stressing that they should run open-door administrations.
The regional minister enjoined them to treat all manner of people equally without discrimination on political lines.
She urged them to implement President John Mahama’s vision of resetting the country for the betterment of all citizens.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abirem, Charles Asuako Wiredu, was happy that the election was peaceful and was attended by both sides of the political divide.
He admonished the people to strive to sustain the spirit.
He promised to cooperate with the new DCE to accelerate the progress of the district.
A former Eastern Regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frimpong, who has been appointed Ambassador designate, was highly elated about the peaceful coexistence of the NDC and NPP members in the district and urged their colleagues in other parts of the country to take a cue from them to sustain the prevailing peace and stability in the nation.
Other speakers at the functions included Obrempong Kwasi Amo Kyeritwie, the chief of Abirem and Gyaasehene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, and Obrempong Sintim Poku III, Akyem Mansohene, who is also the Benkumhene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area.
