Volta Region to get share of appointments — NDC Chairman

The Volta Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has assured the people in the region that President John Mahama will consider qualified persons from the region for appointments in government.

“I have taken notice of concerns raised by the good people of the Volta Region, including chiefs and NDC members, on the fears of Volta not being considered for the right quota of appointments

Doubt

“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to put on record that Volta Region will be considered for appointments in the new NDC administration without fail,” Mr Agbavitor, said in a statement.

It said the president had taken cognisance of the region’s loyalty and hard work, as the only region securing over 90% of the votes for the NDC, winning all the 18 seats, including recapturing Hohoe.

“We also reduced the influence of the NPP by 47% in the Volta Region resulting in the emphatic victory secured in 2024 general elections. As such, our meaningful contributions shall be rewarded accordingly.

“While we look forward to other opportunities in appointments, I urge the rank and file of our party to exercise some level of restraint and be considerate in our expectations,” it said.

The statement asked the people of the region to be rest assured that leadership would continue to work hard in the interest of the party and the people of the Volta Region so far as appointments were concerned.

Support

In a related development, the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) has pledged its support for the John Mahama administration and to contribute to the nation-building agenda.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with your administration to address the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead; and we believe that under your guidance, we can foster development that aligns with the needs of the people, ensuring that no community is left behind.

“As you embark on this new chapter, please know that you have the full support and goodwill of the VRHC. We wish you great success in your endeavours and look forward to witnessing the positive impact of your leadership in the years to come,” it said in a statement signed by the President of the House, Togbe Tepre Hodo.

Appointments

It also called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider individuals from the region in the makeup of his government.

Mr Mahama, a former President, reclaimed the presidency in a historic first, and the VRHC advocated the role of indigenes in the success of the new administration.

Rejuvenation

The statement asked the President to trust individuals from the Volta Region in the pursuit of his agenda for economic rejuvenation.

“The Volta Region plays a significant role in the cultural and economic landscape of Ghana, and as you outlined during your interaction with the VRHC during your recent campaign, our Region deserves its fair share of priorities as outlined in your manifesto.

“We want to urge you to consider our sons and daughters in forming your team, and to ensure that the region is represented adequately in doing so. They serve as role models for the youth of the region and will undoubtedly support you to achieve your aims,” the paramount ruler stated.
