Dr. Josiah Aryeh- NDP National Chairman

It’s not NDP’s agenda to join NDC — Dr Aryeh

It has never been on the National Democratic Party’s (NDP) agenda to join the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC). The National Chairman of the party, Dr Josiah Aryeh, in a telephone chat, told the Daily Graphic that any appeal to that effect must be collectively discussed by the rank and file of the NDP.

He, therefore, dismissed rumours that the NDP was considering joining the NDC.

He was reacting to an informal appeal by the Founder of the NDC, former President  JJ Rawlings, to NDC members at the party’s Saturday congress that they must consider inviting his wife back into their fold.

The former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, broke ranks with the NDC in 2011 to form the NDP ahead of the 2012 general election.

Mrs Rawlings, among other reasons, formed the NDP in 2012 after she lost the flag-bearer race of the NDC in that year to President JE Atta-Mills.

“Let us invite our mother, Nana Konadu, to come back home. I hope she can hear us, I hope she can see us but then again, can you blame her? former President Rawlings told the NDC faithful gathered at the Baba Yara Sports  Stadium in Kumasi.

But Dr Josiah Aryeh said if the NDC decided to invite the NDP to join its ranks, the entire members of the NDP would have to hold a special meeting and collectively deliberate on the matter as to whether to return or not.

“…We believe in plurality of opinions and we have to take decisions collectively. If it comes to a particular point where we must take a decision, we will take that decision collectively and democratically. If former President Rawlings thinks that is the way to go…his opinion is respected…we have to also consider it within a meeting and come to a collective decision,” he explained.
