Kufuor joins Kwanyako chief to celebrate 40th anniversary
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has appealed to the people of Agona Kwanyako in the Central Region to rally behind Nana Ampim Darko V, the chief of the town, to promote the development of the area.

He said since he was enthroned 40 years ago, Nana Ampim Darko, had offered distinguished leadership to the people of the town and that their continuous support towards his reign was very essential and would enable him to address other developmental challenges facing the town.
He, therefore, called on the indigenes of the town to stay united, adding that with unity of purpose and peaceful co-existence, the town would achieve its desired development.
President Kufuor was speaking at a durbar at the Kwanyako Senior High School in commemoration of the 40th anniversary and the 75th birthday of Nana Ampim Darko last Sunday.
He noted that the 40 years reign of the chief had brought a lot of development projects and expressed hope that with the years ahead of him, he would work towards addressing other challenges facing the town.
Nana Ampim Darko acknowledged the tremendous contributions of God in his reign for the past 40 years since it was God who had brought him that far.
He assured the people that he would continue to offer leadership that would open up the town to a lot of opportunities to promote growth and create jobs for the youth of the town.
He noted that chiefs played a pivotal role in the development of every town since the government alone could not undertake developmental projects and, therefore, urged the people to actively participate towards the progress of the town.

Nana Ampim Darko
Nana had his basic education at the Presbyterian School at Kwanyako and completed his standard seven education in 1958. He was later employed as a pupil teacher.
He taught in both Kwanyako and Agona Asafo Presbyterian schools and in 1962, he enlisted into the Ghana Police Service but resigned in 1964 to join the Ghana Armed Forces.
Projects
He initiated and facilitated the construction and refurbishment of Kwanyako Clinic and personally built a science laboratory for the Kwanyako Senior High School.
Other projects he had undertaken were the construction of an Information and Communications Technology Centre at Kwanyako Senior High School, collaborating with the government towards the extension of the Kwanyako Head Water Works and the construction of the nine kilometers link road to join the Winneba- Accra highway.
Before the durbar, a thanksgiving service was held at the Kwanyako Presbyterian Church in honour of Nana Ampim Darko who gave thanks to God for his protection and guidance throughout his reign.
Present at the service were Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, Member of Parliament for Agona East and Deputy Central Regional Minister, Professor Tim Acquah-Hayford, a former Chairman of the National Media Commission, Nana Oduro Kwateng, Guanatoahene of Agona Swedru, among others.
Delivering the sermon, the Kwanyako District Minister of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Kwesi Kyei-Baffour, noted that the institution of chieftaincy was instituted by God and it was incumbent upon present day chiefs to rule the people according to the principles of God.
He called on Nana to continue to rule according to the will of God so that he would achieve the successes of kings like David and Solomon.
