Mr Mensah’s only contender, Mr Raymond E.K. Gborson, decided to step down.

Failed attempts

Earlier, two contenders, Messrs Mohammed Siba Alhassan and Wilfred Kofi Ayer Zhando, failed to secure the two-thirds majority votes after two attempts.

This compelled them to step aside for fresh nominations as the standing orders of the assembly stipulates. This eventually paved the way for the nomination and eventual election of Mr Mensah’s as the substantive PM of the assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Mr Simon Kweku Tetteh, who is a former assembly member, also thanked his colleagues for their morale and spiritual support during his nomination and subsequent endorsement by his colleagues.

He assured his colleagues that with their continuous support, ‘’I will always do the right thing.’’
