The committee, has, therefore, promised to impress upon the government to rehabilitate the roads in the area to encourage teachers and other workers to stay and offer their services in that part of the country.

The chairman of the committee, Mr Mathias Puozaa, expressed the concern when members of the committee met stakeholders of education last Tuesday as part of their week-long working visit to the area.

Mr Puozoa was responding to the concern expressed by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemmansa, Mr Tom Budu, that the poor roads in the district discouraged many workers, especially teachers, from accepting posting to the area.

He added that the situation was also a major cause of teacher absenteeism which was also affecting education.

For his part, the District Director of Education of the area, Mr Fred Kpor, said lack of accommodation for teachers in the various communities adversely affected the punctuality of teachers.

He said some of the teachers stayed in areas where they could get decent accommodation and commute daily to their stations.

Mr Puozaa advised the special committee set up by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to work diligently by studying the problems of education in the area and submit its report to the latter for study and help find lasting solutions to the challenges.
