NDC constituency vice-chairmen urged to respect chairmen

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, has urged constituency executive members of the party to accord their respective chairmen the needed respect.

He said that was the only way to ensure the party’s unity and effective campaign to retain power.

“You must cooperate with your constituency chairmen to deliver Agenda 50–50. There is no need fighting them since divisions are not healthy for the battle ahead,” he added.

Mr Boateng made the call during a meeting in Koforidua with the party’s constituency vice-chairmen from all the 33 constituencies in the Eastern Region.

Loggerheads

He said reports received by the regional executive indicated that most  vice-chairmen were at loggerheads with their chairmen and, therefore, called for closer collaboration.

He recalled that past leaders of the party, including Messrs A.A. Munufie and Harry Sawyer of blessed memory; Issifu Ali and  Mrs Mary Grant were able to steer the affairs of the party with unity, which resulted in the NDC winning power in 1992, 1996, 2008 and 2012.

“If these personalities all paid their dues through unity, how come you as the new generation of leaders are fighting with your chairmen over petty issues? You must forget the past and make efforts to sell your parliamentary and presidential candidates to the people of the region,” he said.

Mr Boateng  said he was happy that in 2008, Ghanaians realised the NDC was the best political party in the country because of its people–centred policies  and voted for it, “so you must not erode this confidence reposed in us,” he added.

Advice

He advised the constituency vice-chairmen to tell the electorate what the government had done in their various constituencies.

The Regional Vice-Chairperson of the party, Madam Stella Ansah, said the NDC had a lot of messages for Ghanaians and, therefore, urged the vice-chairmen to work together with municipal and district chief executives to propagate the party’s message in every community in the region.

She stated that this year’s general election was not going to be easy but was hopeful the NDC would win it to enable it to continue its development programmes.

The Regional Youth Organiser, Mr Haruna Apau Wiredu, urged the vice-chairmen not to play second fiddle to others but see themselves as one entity joining their chairmen to win elections for the NDC.
