The victims, identified as Alhassan Badaru and Salifu both NPP youth, sustained knife wounds and a leg fracture.

According to information gathered by the Daily Graphic from the constituency, the  incident occurred at about 4 p.m. last Saturday when the Bawumia Youth Association embarked on a float which coincided with  the inauguration of  the NDC youth wing.

It was alleged that the Bawumia youth wing had a float amidst music and dance through a venue the NDC youth wing held their inauguration and that led to the confrontation.

Eyewitnesses who confirmed the incident told the Daily Graphic that calm had returned to the constituency but no arrest had been made by the police.

Police begin investigation

The police have begun investigation to arrest the culprits  who instigated the clash.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Abdallah Abubakari, who is the NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, is reported to have called for calm on a local radio station, Eagle FM, at Walewale.

Meanwhile, the Regional Minister is in the constituency to thank the electorate and sympathisers for the rousing welcome they accorded  President John Dramani Mahama during his ‘’Accounting to the People”  Tour of the area.

Tension is said to be rising in the Walewale Constituency in the run-up to the November polls as a result of the keen contest between the NDC and the NPP.

Mr Abubakar is contesting the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC, while the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Sagre Bambaagi, is seeking re-election.

What has made the contest for the parliamentary seat in the Walewale Constituency hotter is the running mate to the NPP Presidential candidate, Dr Mahammoud Bawumia, who hails from the area, as well as the incumbent MP and the Northern Regional Minister, who is also the NDC parliamentary candidate, who are both natives of the constituency.
