“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this barbaric and cowardly murder which represents a major setback for our democracy,” a statement from the party stated.

According to the statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary, the NDC urged the Ghana Police Service to intensify investigations into the heinous crime with a view to bringing the criminals behind the attack to book.

“We urge the Police to  not treat this matter as an internal party matter but a matter that has serious national security implications,” it stated.

The NDC also called on the leadership of the NPP to take urgent steps to quell the growing level of violence and lawlessness that has characterised the activities of the party and which has, no doubt, resulted in this needless loss of life.

It pointed out that these acts of violence and lawlessness were casting an undeserved slur on our reputation as a peaceful and democratic country.

The NDC extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and called on all political pundits to exercise the greatest level of circumspection in discussing this matter in view of the sensitivities involved.

And the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has also expressed shock at the passing away of Mr Mahama.

the PPP sympathised with the members of the NPP and extended its deepest condolences to the children, wife and family of the late Adams Mahama.

A statement signed by Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, National Secretary, urged calm while the police took steps to identify, apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
