NDC pulls out of IEA debate on voters register

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) yesterday pulled out of a debate on whether the voters register must be changed or not. The debate is being organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

The NDC said it was unable to participate in the debate because the “IEA is attempting to usurp or compete with the Electoral Commission (EC) over the voters register issue, which is unacceptable.”

According to a five-point press release signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the EC is the body mandated to deal with all issues relating to election matters.

He said it was very surprising that the IEA was organising the debate after it had been part of a decision taken by the Ghana Political Parties Programme (GPPP) that the EC should be in charge of this matter.
