NDC sets guidelines for Tamale Central parliamentary primary on September 6
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released guidelines for the conduct of the Tamale Central parliamentary primary, which will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
A notice signed by the Northern Regional Directorate of Elections and IT, Dr Arnold Mashud Abukari, said polls will open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m.
Four ballot boxes have been designated for the election, each linked to specific electoral areas. Delegates will be issued QR-code-enabled tags containing their details and must also present an additional form of identification such as a voter ID, Ghana Card, or party membership card.
About 250 joint security officers will be deployed to maintain order, while accredited observers will be restricted to the supporters’ stands of the Tamale stadium. Access to the inner perimeter will only be granted with prior approval.
Each candidate is permitted to appoint four agents per ballot box, although only one agent will be allowed to sign the collated sheet. Two accredited representatives from each candidate will also be granted access to the inner perimeter.
The guidelines prohibit delegates from entering the voting booth with mobile phones. Candidates are also barred from transporting delegates to the centre or campaigning on the grounds during voting.
Polling stations have been mapped to specific electoral areas. Polling Station 1 will serve regional and constituency executives and branches from Agric Mohiyebihi, Gumbihini North, and Aboaboo Ward.
Polling Station 2 covers Moshi-Zongo, Tishigu, Salamba, ADB, Warizihi, and Gumbihini South.
Polling Station 3 caters for Dakpemfong, Buglanfong, Sabonjida, and Victory Wards, while Polling Station 4 will host delegates from Changli, Choggu West, Dohinaayili, Zogbeli, and Lamacara.
Dr. Abukari assured delegates and stakeholders that the measures are designed to guarantee a smooth, transparent, and credible electoral process in line with the NDC’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy.
The primary in Tamale Central follows the death of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who perished in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, alongside seven others.
