NDC supports creation of new regions — MP for Bole/Bamboi
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that the creation of a new region has nothing to do with politics, but it is a fundamental human right of every Ghanaian which seeks to bring governance close to the people and facilitate development.
It has, therefore, pledged its full support for the government's effort to meet the constitutional demand of the people for the creation of new regions in the country.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole Bamboi, Mr Yussif Sulemana, said this at a public hearing of the Commission of Enquiry into the creation of the new regions at Bole in the Northern Region last Saturday.

Mr Sulemana stated that members of the NDC were in full support of the creation of the new regions and would come out in their numbers to vote massively in the referendum to meet the constitutional demand.
He pointed out that the demand for the creation of new regions had been an agenda of successive governments over the years because of the massive development it would bring to the people.
Non-political interest
“Governance is a continued process, the NDC in its 2016 manifesto promised to create new regions so if the NPP has come to power and it is spearheading the creation, there is nothing wrong with that. It is about the interest of the people of Bole and Gonjaland but not any political party," Mr Sulemana stated.
He said there was a substantial demand for the creation of the Savannah Region and there was the need for all and sundry to come together to endorse the creation of the region in the referendum.
He described the government's effort to meet the constitutional demand for the creation of the Savannah Region as a step in the right direction which would help harness the available natural and human resources in the area to enhance development.
“Politics is all about bringing development to the people and if a ruling government is spearheading an initiative that will bring development to the people, you only have to give your maximum support to it. So our position is clear; we fully support the government,” the MP for Bole Bamboi further stated.

The chairman of the Commission of Enquiry into the creation of the new regions, Justice Stephen Allan Brobbey, said the creation of a region was a process, and what the commission was embarking on was a constitutional right of the people.
He described the entire exercise as peaceful so far.
Participants
Participants in the public hearing raised concerns about the demarcation of boundaries and appealed to the commission to consider the use of native districts to demarcate the region.
They pledged to vote massively in the referendum to endorse the creation of the Savannah Region.
