New Juaben Assembly generates GH¢1.6m fund
The internally-generated fund (IGF) of the New Juaben Municipal Assembly between January and August this year amounted to GH¢1.6 million, representing 74 per cent of the amount targeted.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, who made this known when he addressed the assembly on Monday, was hopeful that the figure would hit 95 per cent of the target by the end of the year.
The MCE, who was delivering his maiden address after his confirmation as the political head of the area, also told the gathering that the municipality had also been allocated GH¢1,918,904.32 as its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund for the first quarter of the year.
According to him, the IGF and the Common Fund would be well-utilised for the benefit of the people in the area.
Throwing more light on the development of the municipality, Dr Owusu Acheampong indicated that the assembly already had an action plan for the year and that he would ensure strict compliance of utilisation of resources with regard to its implementation.
Some of the projects covered by the action plan, he stated, included construction of lockable stores, roofing of other stores, minor rehabilitation and upgrading of roads some of which had also been earmarked for routine maintenance, street naming and the construction of a new administrative block for the assembly.
The rest, he stated, were award of bursaries for brilliant, needy students, support for community initiative projects as well as a health intervention programme.
With regard to environmental sanitation, Dr Owusu Achemapong said it was deplorable that although the assembly and Zoomlion, a private waste collection organisation, had teamed up to collect waste in the area, it was still engulfed with waste.

He, therefore, directed the Municipal Environmental Health Directorate to prosecute those who dumped refuse at unauthorised places as well as all others who littered public places such as the lorry parks and the central market with filth.
Dr Owusu Acheampong, however, appealed to the assembly members to continue to educate the people on the need to keep a clean environment.
On housing, the MCE told the House that the government was meeting with the Social Security and National Insurance Trust to complete the construction of abandoned affordable houses initiated by the Kufuor Administration.
That, he stated, would help alleviate accommodation problems facing the people.
The health insurance scheme in the municipality, Dr Owusu Acheampong indicated, had also been successful and that as of June this year had a membership of 197,780 out of which 99,867 were active members.
He commended personnel of the regional and municipal directorate of health services for the able manner they conducted the rubella and measles immunisation exercise in the area.
Dr Owusu Acheampong dwelt on other sectors in the municipality and called on the assembly members for support in the implementation of projects and programmes to improve the lot of the people.
