Obuasi MCE to contest parliamentary seat

With barely 21 months to next year’s general election, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, has declared his intentions to contest the Obuasi East parliamentary seat on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The MCE, a trained journalist, a former manager of Boss FM in the Ashanti Region and a member of the NDC communication team, is basking in the massive endorsement received from his fellow MCEs and District chief executives (DCEs), as well as traditional rulers in the region at a convocation at Obuasi last Thursday.

The convocation was to celebrate Mr Ofori-Agyemang Boadi for initiating the ‘Entrepreneur League,’ which is to give a head start to young artisans and other professionals in the Adansi area.

The league is also to be held in August, September, January and June next year at which 160 youth are to benefit from various working tools, including dryers, sewing machines, shovels, head pans, construction equipment and rollers.

The first presentation to 38 beneficiaries at Obuasi cost GH¢ 46,000 and it is to make the youth independent and help them create jobs for their fellow unemployed youth.

King Zuba, as the MCE is fondly called, is to spend GH¢120,000 on the entire project from his personal resources.

Challenge

He faces a stiff opposition from the current MP, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Edward Anin, who is seen as one of the stalwarts in the Adansi area.

But Mr Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, who is also a prince of Adansi Fomena, said his ‘deliberate and aggressive’ ways of providing development projects at Obuasi was enough testimony to his capability.

Since his appointment in 2013, the MCE, beyond government support, has sought funds from other quarters to provide Obuasi with its first-ever high court, a light industrial area, and a bus terminal, while securing land for the construction of a wood village at Domeabra.
