Paul Afoko congratulates Prez Quattara
In spite of the dark clouds hanging over his position, the embattled Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Paul Afoko, has sent a congratulatory message to the Ivorian President, Allasane Quattara, on his re-election for a second term in office.

The message, signed and issued by Mr Afoko, said he recalled with fond memories, the positive interaction he and the General-Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, had with Mr Quattara during his coronation to become his party’s Presidential Candidate in Abidjan.
Mr Afoko expressed the hope that President Quattara would continue to implement the good policies which have endeared him to the Ivorian people.
He explained that those good policies culminated in President Quattara getting such an overwhelming endorsement.
‘’May the fraternal relations that exist between the Rally of the Republicans and the New Patriotic Party continue to flourish for the benefit of our people,’’ Mr Afoko concluded.
Power struggle
Last Friday, Mr Afoko, the NPP National Chairman, was suspended indefinitely at an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra.
The NPP’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) had on October 21, 2015, submitted a report to the NEC that recommended the indefinite suspension of Mr Afoko as national chairman, citing his unilateral leadership style as a bane to the party’s progress.
At its meeting on Friday, October 23, 2015, the NEC endorsed the recommendation of the DC and asked the First Vice- Chairman, Mr Freddie Blay, to act as the National Chairman in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Meanwhile Mr Paul Awentami Afoko had said he was still at post.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Mr Afoko’s presence, his Spokesperson, Nana Yaw Osei, contended that despite a decision by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to suspend Mr Afoko, “the so-called NEC meeting responsible for taking that decision is illegal and not proper."
He, however, disclosed that Mr Afoko would continue to resort to the appropriate internal party structures to get that decision set aside.
“Should the internal mechanisms fail, Mr Afoko will look at other options available,” the spokesperson served notice.
