He is most remembered for having served the shortest tenure in the political history of Ghana when he was toppled in a coup d’état after serving in office from September 24, 1979 to December 31, 1981.

However, to change the perception of Ghanaians about that and give them a better recollection of the statesman, President Hilla Limann, Urban Storme Productions is to premier at the College of Physicians and Surgeons on December 13, 2015 which is the eve of the birthday of the late President, a documentary of his life, times and achievements.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, Mariam Bobtoya, Mubarak Montia and Junaid Limann of Urban Storme Production, encouraged all to look out for the documentary which was sure to change the perception of all about late President Limann.

 Quest

“I began the quest to document the life and achievements of President Limann primarily because of the fact that for most people, he was better known for being the shortest serving president in the country,” Junaid Limann said.

“It has taken two years of hard effort to get his achievements documented,” he added.

That was because most of the official film footage on the late President during his tenure were gutted by fire at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, while others were destroyed during the coup d’etat, he said.

He was of the view that 17 years after the passing away of  late President Limann, it was time for all to get to know the achievements of the statesman which were monumental.

“We have to know who he was and what he stood for.”

His achievements

He said the late President Limann came to power at a time when the country was struggling under the reigns of the military.

With a dire economic outlook, the late President was able to convince donors of the country’s prospects, leading to aid pouring into the country for its economic rejuvenation.

He said that was a great achievement because at the time the country was just emerging from a chaotic military rule with all donors sceptical about her prospects.

Junaid Limann, who is a nephew of the late President, said the documentary was made from interviewing primary sources, friends and colleagues of the late President and reviewing materials and journals on the President.

Some oral information was also passed on to him by family members.

Never seen footage

“However, what stands out in the documentary is the inclusion of some film footage that has never been seen in the country before,” Junaid Limann said.

For the three producers, a great challenge during the production was the restraint of some people in divulging information because they feared victimisation since the late President was toppled by people, some of whom wielded power currently.
