President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the governing boards of nine state institutions with immediate effect.
The organisations include the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), chaired by former Minister of Energy, Professor Joe Oteng-Adjei;
the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), chaired by Associate Professor of Finance and Risk Management at the University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Saint Kuttu;
the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), chaired by former GCB Bank Managing Director, Ernest Mawuli Agbesi, and
Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, which is chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore.
A statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the dissolution of the nine boards on Wednesday afternoon (September 2, 2026).
It named the rest of the affected institutions as the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), which is chaired by the Deputy Ambassador to China, Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah;
Ghana Post Company Limited, chaired by business executive and chartered marketer, Petra Aba Asamoah;
the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, chaired by Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Isaac Adjei Mensah;
TDC Ghana Limited, chaired by MP for Tema East and former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, and
the National Sports Authority, chaired by Prof. Fred Awaah, an Associate Professor of Public Administration at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA).
The statement said relevant sector ministers had been directed to take all necessary steps, in accordance with applicable laws and governing instruments, to give effect to the dissolution of the boards.
It added that the affected boards would be reconstituted in due course.
Although the statement did not give any reason for the dissolution, checks by Graphic Online indicate that the development was part of the President's broader efforts to restructure state institutions and ensure effective governance.
A letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, a copy of which has been sighted by Graphic Online, stated that during the interim period when the boards remain dissolved, management of the organisations “shall not take any major policy, financial or contractual decisions requiring board approval without prior authorisation from the appropriate authority.”
