PPP delegates in the Upper East Region going through voting procedure

PPP holds regional executive elections in Upper East

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Upper East Region has elected its regional executive officers to steer affairs of the party for the next four years.

Mr Abanga Ayinga Williams, a business man, was elected the chairman of the party when he obtained 211 votes to beat his main contender, Mr Samari Jonathan, a teacher, who had 183 votes.

Mr Ditamina Gambil Emmanuel was  elected the regional secretary with 288 votes as against 115 by Mr Maxwell Akanuwe.

Madam Atubiga Juliana, a teacher, was  elected as the Women’s Organiser when she obtained 275 votes to beat her only contender, Madam Akapame Akanlunge Linda, who had 132.

Mr Sampson Laar, Mr Kpinn Raphael, Mr Abubakr Mubarak and Mr  Awudu Tanimu Dabre went unopposed as the first vice chairman, organiser, youth organiser and education secretary respectively.

The National Director of Operations of the party, Nana Ofori Owusu, who swore in the elected officers, said the party would subsequently appoint deputies for the various positions.

The chairman said the party was battle-ready for the 2016 elections and called on members of the party to embark on an aggressive campaign for the PPP to win some parliamentary seats in the region.

The election, which was supervised by the Electoral Commission, went on peacefully. Six people filed for the chairman, secretary, and women’s organiser positions whilst the rest went unopposed.
