A statement from the Flagstaff House said the bilateral discussions centred on the strengthening of bilateral and economic cooperation between their countries.

Ms Rousseff, 67, is the first female President of Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy. She won the October 2014 election by beating the opposition candidate, Mr Aecio Neves.

The swearing-in was attended by 27 heads of state, including those from Guinea Bissau, Portugal, Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile and Costa Rica.

Other countries were represented by their vice-presidents and foreign ministers.

Ghana-Brazil relations

Ghana and Brazil have over the last few years strengthened their bilateral and economic co-operation, leading to the financing and execution of a number of key infrastructure projects in Ghana by Brazil and Brazilian companies.

The projects include the ongoing work on the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra; a new international airport in Tamale in the Northern Region; a new hangar for the Ghana Air Force and the soon-to-start interchange project at Kasoa in the Central Region.

“Ghana is also expecting a number of agricultural equipment including tractors from Brazil for enhanced mechanised services and farming,” the statement said.

The Flagstaff House said President Mahama's attendance and participation in President Rousseff’s inaugural ceremony was a demonstration of the new relationship between the two countries and the quest to further improve collaboration.
