Prof Opoku-Agyemang criticises President Akufo-Addo for erecting a statue to honour himself

The Vice Presidential candidate of  the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should concentrate on fixing Ghana’s "worsening economic crisis" instead of erecting statues of himself in self glorification.

Commenting on a statue erected at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region to honour President Akufo-Addo, and which was unveiled by the President himself last week, Prof Opoku-Agyemang described the move as a misplacement of priorities at a time when many Ghanaians were facing severe economic challenges.

She was speaking on Tuesday [Nov 12] during a campaign tour in the North East Region.

Speaking to the Regent of Wungu, Sulemana Saka Adams, in Walewale, Prof Opoku-Agyemang said the rising cost of goods and services  was pushing ordinary citizens into poverty.

“Many Ghanaians, especially women, are struggling to make ends meet as prices continue to soar. It is disheartening that the government would focus on self-celebration when citizens are facing hardship,” she said.
