Re: Remove Yilo Krobo mce

We the constituency executive of the Yilo Krobo constituency would like to react to a publication on page 40 of the Wednesday, August 15, 2018 issue of the Daily Graphic with the headline “Remove Yilo Krobo MCE, Youth Association appeals to President,” by Ezekiel E. Sottie.

The publication is misleading, malicious, capricious, false, mischievous and prejudiced.

We would not have bothered to react if the story was true, but because the writer sought to mislead the public because the assembly had turned down series of requests by him, we are obliged to set the records straight.

Siting of university

In the first place, the demonstration was not against the MCE, Mr Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor. It was rather in response to a malicious propaganda by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the main campus of the Eastern University was being relocated to Bunso by the government.

The organisers, who were not happy that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) had gone on air to refute the allegations and had made their demonstration unsuccessful, attempted to heckle him when he came to receive their petition. For the avoidance of doubt, we want to state that the main campus is at Somanya and not going to Bonsu.

The writer has a penchant for writing negative reports about New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees at Yilo Krobo. So, ordinarily, we would have ignored him, but the mischief he sought to portray is what is reprehensible. He did so against the two District Chief Executive’s (DCEs) in former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime.
The complaints the writer made in the article are preposterous and false.

The MCE

Mr Kupualor has lived all his life at Somanya. As a teacher, he has helped shape the lives of several Krobos. It is not true that he is impolite. Mr Kupualor is accessible, affable, respectful and humble. Human as he is, it is not everybody who will like him, but to lie that he has no regard for anyone is wicked and ungodly.

How can an MCE disrespect his people, the very people he was appointed to serve?

Developmental projects

It is false to say development projects have been abandoned without giving the specifics.

The fact is that most of the projects he inherited were not paid for by the previous administration. The assembly he inherited was highly indebted.

The MCE paid for most of the projects he inherited, while some had been completed, others were ongoing.

For instance, the Abokobi toilet has been paid for and handed over to the community. The Methodist School fence has also been paid for.

The assembly has fully paid the counterpart funding for the SIF Projects, hence the CHPS Compound at Akorwu Bana and the Nurses quarters at Agogo are at roofing levels.

It is, therefore, not true that he is promoting his personal interest at the expense of the people.

Security

Mr Kupualor has improved the security situation at Yilo Krobo with the provision of 750 streetlights to illuminate the whole municipality.

In education, he has supported municipal sports .

He has provided scholarships for over 60 needy, brilliant students.

With electrification, all the 23 communities that were left out of the Rural Electrification Project by the previous government are today being connected to the national grid.

On roads, the Aboa Besease and Oluahai roads have undergone reshaping.

Under Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), 791 people from 30 communities at Yilo Krobo have been enrolled on the programme.

The assembly has facilitated the take off of the municipal hospital.

A fertiliser fortifier plant to be sited at Akorley is in the offing. Mr Kupualor has been in office for barely one year. Looking at the debts he inherited at the assembly, its fair to say that he has distinguished himself creditably.

The government

The government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has Krobos at heart. He is ready to develop the municipality. It is unfortunate that some people would like to undermine these efforts.

For instance, the electricity problem in Krobo, which led to the burning of a police vehicle didn’t start during his government so why would people link it to his administration?

The record is there that it is only in this administration in the history of Ghana that electricity tariffs have been reduced by 30 per cent.

The Minister of Education in his latest press conference in Accra debunked the notion that the university was being sent to Bunso so it is only our political opponents who would still want to deceive Krobos.

In the 16 years they ruled in the Fourth Republic, what monumental development did they bring to the Krobos?

Appeal

We would like to appeal to all Krobos and Ghanaians in general that we should rather engage and support the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to develop the country.

The MCE is a sensitive person. He has travelled to Accra on three occasions on this university issue, sent opinion leaders to the site to see to the progress of work.
Let’s stop the deceit. The NPP government will prove to Krobos that they have them at heart.

We would like to assure the general public and Krobos in particular that Mr Kupualor is ready to serve the chiefs and the people of Yilo. His doors are open and nothing will change his resolve to transform Yilo Krobo.

Let’s eschew tribalism, today a Krobo is an MP at Sefwi Akontombra. Many of our kinsmen are holding key positions in other parts of the country. We are one people with a common destiny.

Let’s unite to develop Yilo Krobo. Let’s make it better than we came to meet it. United we stand, divided we fall.

We the constituency executive and the party fully support the MCE. He has excellent working relationship with us and we have confidence in him.

Long live Yilo Krobo, long live Ghana.
